TOP: "Predock Diptych" Two views of the entrance to the Art Museum in the J Russell and Bonita Nelson Fine Arts Center at Arizona State University, Tempe AZ. Architect: Antoine Predock. This justaposition of 2 views invents an impassable entrance with new geometry that is not inconsistent with Predock's own play with geometry. BOTTOM: "915 Diptych" Two quite separate (by 6 blocks and maybe 80 years) buildings that I encountered on one day's ramble along Sansome Street in San Francisco's Financial District. I brought the 2 images together for their sympathetic colors and angles. This diptych received the first place award in color photography at the "Architecture in Focus IV" exhibit at the Oakland Museum, Oakland CA, in 1995. The architect/designer of the tiled façade on the right is Michael Graves, I believe. TOGETHER: They balance so nicely; they are colored from the same delicate palette; and they present some of my favorite subjects: architecture, typography, the juxtaposition of angles and of organic/geometric elements. return to gallery index |
